Smart Strong Safe is a program developed by the Hazlet Township Police Department in partnership with Bayshore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and 180 Turning Lives Around to educate young women on how they can protect themselves.

Day 1: Friday, April 21st 5pm

Where: Hazlet Township Court Room 255 Middle Road, Hazlet, NJ 07730:

The program begins with an educational piece presented by 180 on relationship violence, drug facilitated sexual assault, and other warning signs of potentially dangerous situations young people put themselves in- most often without even realizing it. There is no dress code for this night, parents are welcome to sit in. 

Day 2: Saturday, April 22nd 9am

Where: Bayshore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gym, 1444 NJ 36 Hazlet, NJ 07730

The second day of the program is run by instructors from Bayshore BJJ to teach basic yet valuable hands-on skills of self-defense. These techniques can be used to increase attendees ability to avoid, respond, and escape a sexual predator. Comfortable gym/sport attire is recommended for the hands-on day at the Jiu Jitsu gym 

 

The program is directed towards young women in high school.

Any high school age group is welcome with parental permission.   

Please note: we understand some residents go to schools out of town and may have friends from out of town- we will not turn away anyone looking to partake in this program and encourage our local girls to tell their friends!

By signing below, I certify I wish to partake, or I allow my child to partake, in the Smart Strong Safe program and absolve the Hazlet Township Police Department and all affiliates of the program from any liability of personal injury or damages.

Attendance for both days is highly reccommended. Forms will be given out on Friday, April 21st, and must be returned to Bayshore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on Saturday April 22nd in order to participate in the hands-on portion.
